Remember the days when your parents used to wait for the next day’s light for the daily dose of what is happening around the world and in the country? News, twenty years before, was only through the newspapers which used to reach next day. By that time the developments reached to the heights that you had to update yourself of the entire information all over again. With the advent of technology the hour long news bulletin in the general entertainment channel got transformed into twenty-four hour news channels.
Twenty-four hour news channel and breaking news is a concept initiated by the West. With the launch of several 24-hour news channels, the players were forced to be part of the race to reach the number one spot. Whether it is viewership, TRP or raking in the moolah through advertisements, the news channels had no option than competing with each other. This is how the viewers got introduced to the concept of breaking news in India. The fierce competition for convincing the viewer that their channel is the first one to get them the latest and the most updated information that matters to them . Breaking news can be defined as any of the current events which cuts short the normal scheduled programming on a twenty-four hour news channel.

The decision to cut short to breaking news is taken by the broadcaster. While some news channels by policy decide on breaking news for events of national or political importance, other news channels can decide on the breaking news on the basis of the wide interest of the viewers.The breaking news can be from any field today. The topics from which breaking news can come from include politics, national integrity, war, business, economy, sports and entertainment and foreign policy. The breaking news in India has come at a juncture where anywhere from an actress giving birth to a child to a minister making a slip of a tongue during the question hour of the Parliament session can become make news headlines.


As far as breaking news in India is concerned it can be an upcoming event, an update on the live coverage of an event or any latest development on the story which has been covered before. Most of the news channels follow the breaking news for just a matter of five minutes and later do a detailed story, while some other channels continue flashing breaking news through a ticker for a few hours until it gets any detailed information on the course of events further.

Just at the click of a button all the latest updates are either available on the news channels through television or through the news websites of various newspapers. With several news channels mushrooming in the recent times, the newspapers have also tightened their belts to gear up for the competition and regain their readership. Almost all news papers have strengthened their network by using the online interface to develop their own news website to flash the latest breaking news. No matter how fierce the competition may be, the viewer is getting full advantage of breaking news today. Now all the breaking news and live updates are readily available on all the Indian news channels without having to wait for the next morning to get any information that matters to them. For a country like India the economy of which, is growing at such a fast pace, the citizen has to have the latest of all the news developments to keep them abreast of what is important in their country and around the world.(tirosub.com)
