A dead whale washed up on Lota beach, Chile



A dead whale washed up on Lota beach, in the coastal town of Lota located in Chile's central Bio-Bio region on April 25, according to local media reports. Local media reported that the lifeless body of the whale, which is estimated to be some 29 feet (9 meters) long, washed up on the shore in the Punta Astorga sector of the town.

A bulldozer was brought in to help remove the whale and bury it nearby on the beach. Dozens of curious onlookers gathered to observe the operation. Personnel of the Captaincy of Lota Port had given notice to the government's Sernapesca fisheries body and the local municipality to take the corresponding measures, local media reported.
