Gautam Lahiri elected President of Press Club of India (PCI), Sangeeta Barua became Vice President
New Delhi: Senior journalist Gautam Lahiri has been elected as the President of Press Club of India (PCI) for the second consecutive time. In this election, Gautam Lahiri panel has achieved a great success by registering a one-sided victory on all the posts.
Gautam Lahiri got the highest number of 1045 votes as PCI President. Sangeeta Barua got 927 votes for the post of Vice President, Neeraj Thakur got 913 votes for the post of General Secretary, Afzal Imam got 782 votes as Joint Secretary while Mohit Dubey also got 782 votes for the post of Treasurer.
After winning the post of President for the second time, Gautam Lahiri said, "Our team constantly tries to maintain the freedom of media as well as the autonomy of media institutions and will continue to do so in future also. Independent media is the foundation of a healthy democracy and it is our responsibility to protect it. We will continue to raise the problems of journalists vocally in the coming days as well."

Along with this, 16 managing committee members of this panel won, including Aditi Rajput of NADV, Meghna Dhulia of Times of India, Mohammad Azad of Univarta, Surabhi Kanga of Caravan, Shankar Anand of Network 18, Anando Chattopadhyay of Times of India, independent journalist Pragya Singh, senior journalist Amitabh Rai Choudhary, Abhishek Kumar Singh of All India Radio, Ashish Gupta of Assamese Pratidin, senior journalist Nalini Ranjan Mohanty, PR Sunil of Reporter Live, Ashraf Ali of Asia Times Urdu, senior journalist Sunil Negi, Ravindra Kumar of CNN News 18 and Pabba Suresh Babu of South India Times. A total of 1357 votes were cast in the annual election of the Press Club on Saturday.
