US Presidential Election 2024: Who are the Big Media houses supporting? Which Media houses are neutral?

The people of America will decide on November 5, 2024, who will lead the country for four years between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris? Today everyone wants to know whether Donald Trump is winning or Kamala Harris? Most surveys are showing a close contest between the two contenders. In today's era, it has also become important to see which candidate the media is supporting?

The history of American media of supporting the presidential candidate of its choice is quite interesting and old. In the 1860 presidential election, the Chicago Tribune supported Abraham Lincoln. During the Great Depression in 1932, The New York Times appealed to vote for Franklin D. Roosevelt. In the election leaning towards Trump, this appeal of media groups can influence those voters who are still not able to decide who to vote for. In this presidential election, so far about 80 media groups have appealed to support Democratic candidate Kamala Harris while about 10 have appealed to support Donald Trump. That is, the American media wants to see Kamala Harris becoming the next president.

The 80 media groups supporting Kamala Harris for President include big newspapers and magazine groups like The New York Times and The New Yorker. Apart from these, Los Angeles Sentinel, San Antonia Express, Boston Globe, Denver Post and Seattle Times have also written editorials about making Kamala Harris the President. British newspaper The Guardian has also appealed to vote for Harris to protect democratic values. The New York Times has supported Kamala Harris for the post of President and called her the only patriotic candidate in this election. The New York Times has not considered Trump a worthy candidate for the post of President.

It is true that there is no special enthusiasm about Donald Trump in most of the media of America. But some conservative publishers and media groups have definitely openly appealed to support Trump. Prominent among them are news organizations like New York Post, Washington Times and Las Vegas Review General. In this election, perhaps after many decades, it is happening that some reputed media groups are avoiding supporting any candidate. Newspapers like The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times have announced that they will not support any candidate.

However, the Los Angeles Times has supported Democratic candidates Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Biden in previous elections. But this time the newspaper's neutral stance is being criticized. Mariel Graza, the head of the newspaper's editorial board, has resigned. She says that this decision does not match the values of the newspaper. Similarly, the Washington Post's decision not to support any candidate after 40 years is being strongly criticized both within and outside the newspaper. After this decision of the newspaper, Robert Kagan, the editor-in-chief of the Washington Post, resigned. Also, 11 columnists wrote an article and condemned the decision.

The publishers of the Washington Post say that this stance is not unique. Before 1976, the newspaper did not regularly support anyone in the presidential elections. This started during the time of Jimmy Carter and the newspaper is again returning to its old tradition. Jeff Bezos, owner of The Washington Post, is also the founder of e-commerce platform Amazon.
