Fayyaz himself also shared a video on his Facebook account on January 17, 2025, in which the shirtless and chained journalist was begging for his release from the clutches of the kidnappers. The video also showed the journalist being tortured by a masked armed man.
As soon as the news of the journalist's kidnapping spread, there was a stir in Sindh. A special police team was formed to ensure the quick and safe release of the kidnapped journalist. The investigation and recovery efforts in this regard were being monitored by Sindh's senior information minister Sharjeel Inaam Memon and Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan themselves.
The journalist's abduction sparked massive outrage among Sindh's journalist community and media persons took to the streets in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas and other big and small towns of the province on Saturday. Khairpur Sahafi Ittehad blocked the national highway in protest and demanded Solangi's safe and early recovery.
Ghulam Hussain Chang and other office bearers of the association accused the police of launching efforts to recover the journalist six days after his abduction only after his video went viral on social media. They warned that they would intensify their protests if the journalist was not recovered within 24 hours.
Solangi's colleague Ghulam Hussain Chang told at the Hingorja Press Club that when Solangi went missing and his motorcycle was found parked on a link road at around 7:00 pm, the police along with journalists searched for him but he could not be found. He said that after the video confirmed Solangi's abduction, his uncle received a call from the kidnappers, demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore rupees for his nephew's release.
Chang said the district police did nothing to recover the journalist for the last six days and started action only after the chief minister informed them about the abduction. While the police found out that the mobile phone of the missing journalist was active in Gauspur in Kandhkot-Kashmore district.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah sought a report from Sindh IGP on the incident and directed the police to ensure the journalist's recovery. Finally, a week later, Sindh Police exposed the fake story of the journalist's abduction.
