Journalist Pooja Tiwari Suicide Case: Judgement After 9 Years, Accused Police Inspector Acquitted
Faridabad, Haryana: The court's verdict has come after 9 years in the case of suicide of 27-year-old journalist Pooja Tiwari, a resident of Indore city of Madhya Pradesh. The court of Additional Sessions Judge SK Sharma acquitted the accused Haryana Police Inspector Amit Kumar on 5 March 2025.
This verdict was given due to the absence of the name of the accused in the FIR and Pooja Tiwari's suicide note and the role of the accused was not found in the crime scene recreation. The inspector's lawyer had put forward these arguments before the court during the debate.
Pooja Tiwari's father Ravi Tiwari says that he is not at all satisfied with the judgment of the lower court. The court acquitted the accused inspector by ignoring the evidence and facts provided by him. Whereas many evidences were given by him against the inspector. The police also did not investigate properly. Ravi Tiwari said that after reading the court order, he will go to the Punjab and Haryana High Court against this decision.
Pooja's father Ravi Tiwari had said in a complaint to Surajkund Police, "My daughter was forced to commit suicide by three doctors including the former chief of IMA. Pooja and her journalist friend Anuj Mishra had done a sting operation against those doctors in March in a foeticide case. As part of a conspiracy, the doctors had filed a case in the Central Police Station accusing his daughter of extorting Rs 2 lakh. The lady doctor runs a nursing home in Sector-17. Later, the web portal fired Pooja from her job, due to which she was mentally very upset."
Actually, there was pressure on Pooja to suppress the sting operation done against the doctors. But she had already published that news. As soon as the sting operation came to light, doctors accused Pooja of blackmailing and filed a case against her, which left her mentally disturbed. Pooja had also mentioned the case registered against her in her suicide note.
According to her father, Pooja had shifted to Sadbhavna Apartment just 20 days before the incident. She had come to live in flat number 509 on the fifth floor. Pooja's family friend Inspector Amit also used to live in the flat. The inspector was already married. He had reached the flat from Police Line Sector-30 at around 11 pm on the night of the incident.
Distressed Pooja called her journalist friend Amreen from Indore to Faridabad. Amreen reached Faridabad from Indore on April 22. Since then she was living with Pooja. At the time of the incident, it also came to light that everyone had consumed alcohol at night. During this time, there was an argument between Amit and Pooja over something. At around 1.30 in the night, Pooja allegedly jumped from the fifth floor.
Dushyant Sharma, the lawyer of Inspector Amit Kumar who was accused in the Pooja suicide case, said that no role of the inspector was found in the entire case. He said that the inspector's name was neither in the FIR nor in Pooja's suicide note. Even in the crime scene recreation by the police, no involvement was seen.
In this case which lasted for 9 years, a total of 43 people including the deceased's parents and brother testified. Indore journalist Jitendra Yadav was also included in this. The police had filed a charge sheet of more than 300 pages.
